Initial consultation

The first meeting, known as the initial consultation, typically spans up to 1 hour and serves the crucial purpose of determining if we're a good match for collaboration. This session isn't just for you to evaluate me; it's a chance for both of us to assess compatibility. There's absolutely no obligation for you to commit to working with me, or any other therapist for that matter, if you're not entirely convinced that it's the right fit.

During this initial consultation, I'll invite you to outline your concerns and the reasons motivating your pursuit of therapy at this specific juncture. We'll delve into your background, current circumstances, and your aspirations for therapy. Based on our discussion, I'll sketch out a preliminary understanding of your issues and design a potential therapeutic plan. After reviewing these points, you'll have ample time to ask any questions you might have.

As we wrap up this session, I'll encourage you to take at least a day to reflect on whether you'd like to proceed working together. If you choose to continue, our next step would be discussing the optimal approach for our collaboration.

Duration of therapy

The duration of our collaboration is tailored to each unique situation and can range from a few sessions to more extensive, longer-term engagement. Following our initial assessment, I'll gauge the number of sessions I believe could be beneficial, and we'll jointly decide on this based on our agreed-upon therapeutic goals. Regardless of our initial plan, it's important to note that the arrangement remains open to reevaluation.

This flexibility is essential due to potential developments that may surface during our work together and the possibility of shifts in your therapeutic objectives. To illustrate, you might initially seek assistance for managing panic attacks, and we might set a goal of 6 sessions to address this issue. However, as our therapy progresses, other matters could come to light, like a general sense of dissatisfaction with your relationships or lifestyle. At this point, we can collaboratively decide whether to extend therapy to delve into these additional concerns and determine the number of sessions required for exploration.

Our initial meeting will focus on getting to know each other and creating a comfortable atmosphere for our work together. I'm here to provide the support and clarity you need to make informed decisions about your journey towards well-being.

How do I book an appointment?

Booking an appointment is simple. You can reach out via phone or email to schedule a suitable time for your sessions. If you're unsure, the initial consultation is a great starting point to explore your options.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

Counselling can benefit anyone seeking support, self-discovery, or personal growth. It's especially helpful if you're dealing with challenges such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or life transitions. The initial 30-minute consultation provides an opportunity to discuss your concerns and determine whether counselling aligns with your needs.

Is everything I share during sessions confidential?

Absolutely. Confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of our counselling process. Your privacy is paramount, and anything discussed during our sessions remains strictly confidential, except in exceptional circumstances outlined in our privacy policy.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required varies based on your unique situation and goals. Short-term therapy for specific issues may involve a smaller number of sessions, while more complex concerns might require a longer-term approach. We'll discuss your progress and needs regularly, and we can adjust the number of sessions as necessary.

How long is a counselling session, and how often will I need to attend?

Individual counselling sessions typically last 50 minutes, while couples' counselling sessions run for 60 minutes. The frequency of sessions can vary depending on your preferences and the nature of the issues you're addressing. Some clients find weekly sessions beneficial, while others may prefer bi-weekly or monthly appointments. We'll work together to determine a schedule that suits you best.

What can I expect from a counselling session?

Counselling sessions provide a safe and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts, emotions, and concerns. During the session, we'll engage in open and non-judgmental dialogue, working towards gaining insights, developing coping strategies, and fostering personal growth. Each session is tailored to your needs and goals, creating a supportive environment for positive change.
